Digital antiques gallery using AR and 3D scanning technology
This project was inspired by a Chinese antiques collector from Mainland China, a true connoisseur of priceless ancient artifacts dating back to the kingdom era. His extensive collection has not only preserved history but also inspired several books he authored, detailing the fascinating stories behind these treasures.
It all started when I met his daughter and proposed the idea of creating a digital antiques gallery using AR and 3D scanning technology. This innovation brings a new dimension to experiencing history. One of the key benefits of Web AR is that it requires no app installation—simply scan the QR code with your mobile device, and you can explore directly in your browser.
Here’s one of the antique items I scanned and developed into a Web AR showcase. To enhance the experience further, I’m integrating AI-enabled features such as storytelling and interactive Q&A based on historical records of the artifacts.
Give it a try! Check the comments for the AR target image and the app QR code. When it loads, don’t forget to grant camera permission to your device.
